Updated for the 2026 Sioux Empire Home Show™

Mahlander’s is excited to once again be part of the Sioux Empire Home Show™, hosted by the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire. The event is a long-standing tradition for the Sioux Falls appliance and lighting retailer — and a favorite among homeowners planning remodels, builds, or simple upgrades.

If you have been to the event (and if you have not, make this the year!), you know that exhibitors do all they can to create attractive, engaging displays to highlight their wares.

But just how do those booths come about?

Booth photos from 2025 and 2021 illustrate changing trends. New colors, shapes, styles and finishes help shape the look of the Mahlander's booth each year. It's an opportunity to showcase fresh ideas outside of our showroom.

Planning Starts Long Before the Doors Open

Creating a Home Show display begins months — sometimes nearly a year — in advance. From reserving space to coordinating logistics, product availability, transportation, and setup, it’s a process that requires careful planning and serious teamwork.

At Mahlander’s, many booth components are modular and reused year after year. Structural elements like walls, shelving, cabinetry, and lighting supports are stored offsite, then transported and reassembled at the Convention Center.

Appliances, lighting and furnishings are carefully selected to showcase the latest trends as well as items that stand the test of time. No detail is overlooked as staff create a beautiful vignette that highlights some of our most intriguing products. Over time, the booth evolves to reflect changing styles, new technologies, and how homeowners are using their spaces today.

A Team Effort From Start to Finish

Once planning is complete, execution begins. Booth assembly involves everything from structural setup to electrical coordination — especially important when lighting fixtures and appliances are part of the display. It’s an all-hands-on-deck endeavor and takes place over two or three days.

Appliances are installed and tested so visitors can see how they function. Light fixtures are powered and positioned to demonstrate how they perform in real-world settings. The goal isn’t just to display products, but to help homeowners imagine how those products could work in their own homes.

Bringing It All Together

After the major elements are in place, the focus shifts to layout and finishing details — accessories, art, mirrors, and decor items. Thoughtful styling and balanced spacing help create a cohesive display that feels approachable and inspiring.

Like the homes Mahlander’s helps design every day, the Home Show display continues to change over time. While styles and technology evolve, the purpose remains the same: helping homeowners feel confident as they explore options for their spaces.

Kitchen Details Worth Planning Before Your Remodel Begins

A kitchen remodel is exciting, but it also comes with a long list of decisions. Cabinets, countertops, appliances, lighting, finishes, flooring, hardware and layout all need to work together, and many of those choices are more connected than they may seem.

That is why some of the most important kitchen decisions should happen before anything is ordered or installed.

6 Appliance Features That Are Worth Paying For

Shopping for new appliances can get overwhelming fast. Refrigerators, ranges, microwaves, dishwashers, washers and dryers come with more features than ever before. Some can make everyday life noticeably easier. Others may sound impressive but might not be worth the extra cost for the way you live.

So, which appliance features are actually worth paying for?
